The Knights Templar School, Baldock Uniform Guide

School uniform is obligatory. The school’s reputation depends to a large extent on the impression the pupils create. Therefore, whether in formal clothes or sports wear, whether within the school or outside, they should be smartly dressed and behave with decorum, remembering that they are ambassadors of whom the school and their parents should be proud.

You can view the school’s official guide to uniform on the school website or we below where we have included it for your convenience. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch – we are fully aware of what is obligatory and what is optional and happy to help.Take a look at our size guide – or give us a call for more info.

All clothing and belongings should be clearly marked with the pupil’s name.

Pupils should be in full school uniform on their way to and from school. Blazers are to be worn at all times except when ‘Summer Uniform Regulations’ apply. Trainers must not be worn except in break times, lunch times and P.E. lessons.

If the weather is very hot we have a period of ‘Summer Uniform’ in the second part of the Summer Term. During this time blazers and ties need not be worn and this period will not begin until it has been announced officially.

Girls may wear a skirt or trousers. Skirts should be around knee length. They should not be too short or too long nor should they be tight fitting. Trousers should be tailored, black with straight legs and should not be tight fitting. Only skirts with a Knights Templar Badge can be worn.

KTS non-motif items such as blazers, school shirts, boys’ and girls’ trousers etc. may be purchased from any clothier including Tesco Stores in Baldock.

Hair: Extremes of style and colour are not allowed. Only natural colours are allowed. Boys’ hair should be no longer than the collar, nor should it be too short (i.e. closely cropped: No. 2 is the shortest acceptable cut). No patterns or varying lengths should be cut into the hair. If in doubt please consult the relevant Year Leader. A small amount of gel is permitted. Hair must be tied back for PE. Pupils should be clean-shaven.

No make-up or nail varnish is to be worn in Year 7 to 9. In Year 10 to 11, girls may wear a discreet amount of make up. Girls with pierced ears may wear one pair of plain gold studs or small sleepers, one per ear and in the lobe. Boys are not allowed to wear earrings. Body or tongue piercing and tattoos are not allowed. All earrings must be removed before PE lessons.

Baseball caps should not be worn in or to and from school.

Coats should not be carried or worn around the school. They should be hung up in Form Rooms or kept in lockers. Hoodies are not permitted.

Girls’ shoes should be as flat as possible.

Every pupil is provided with a locker. They must use their lockers to store equipment and anything of value they bring to school. The school cannot accept responsibility for belongings left elsewhere. Pupils will have their own key which must be kept safely. They must make a note of their key number in their school diary.

For their lessons pupils are expected to have a pen, a rubber, a ruler, black and coloured pencils. Certain subjects will require pupils to have specialist equipment. Pupils must always have their homework diary with them and properly completed. Most items are available from our stationery shop which is open every break time.

Pupils are provided with exercise and textbooks. They must take good care of their books which must be covered. Sturdy plastic covers, bearing the school crest, are available from the school shop which opens every break time. Pupils will be expected to pay for replacements for any books which are lost or damaged. Pupils will be expected to have the correct books for lessons according to their timetable.

Mobile phones may be brought into school but this is entirely at the owner’s risk and must NEVER be used during lessons. – this will automatically lead to the item being confiscated and passed to the relevant Year Leader, who will not return it until at least the end of that school day. Pupils are responsible for keeping their belongings safe and using their own lockers to do so. They should certainly not leave such things lying around or in bags or jackets which are unattended particularly during PE periods.

Pupils are responsible for ensuring their clothes are hung on pegs or put in their bag when changing for PE. Lockers are available in the changing rooms for valuables; pupils are responsible for keeping their belongings safe and using these or their own lockers to do so.
